Find Your Voice, Your Way, On Your Terms
Magical Black Womxn Thrive (MBWT) is an inclusive practice especially focused on supporting Womxn of color and those impacted by reproductive injustice and providing clinical supervision for social workers. MBWT provides services aimed at impacting both ends of the spectrum - one end strives to create a place for therapy clients to learn who they are and find support for making the decision that are best for them in all aspects of their lives while the other prepares social workers & other providers to be aware of the role that their own experiences with oppression and privilege plays in their work with clients so they can provide the best services possible.
Supervision/Consultation
MISSION
MBWT is focused on providing anti-racist and identity-affirming clinical supervision for social workers, counselors and other professionals seeking to be intentional in the services they provide.
Therapy
MISSION
MBWT offers therapy clients an opportunity to thrive and affirm who they are in a world that often challenges and lacks support for diverse identities, especially in relation to owning your own reproductive health and choices.
Meet the Womxn Behind MBWT
Licensed Clinical Social Worker- Certified (LCSW-C)
Hi, I'm Mercedes! I am a Black Queer Fat Womxn who works daily to take responsibility for the cisgendered, able-bodied and other forms of privilege I benefit from. I am a lifetime Baltimorean (Proud Western Dove!) who is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Certified (LCSW-C & Board Approved Supervisor). I am an anti-racist who believes the dismantling of white supremacy is central to reaching equity for all. I am a childfree person by choice who fought hard to find love for myself in that choice. I have worked with Black & Brown mothers in Baltimore during various reproductive milestones: pre & postpartum, pregnancy & child loss, pre & post abortion support, menopause and just figuring out what they want for themselves. I am dedicated to supporting every womxn and person to make the choices that are right for them and their bodies. In my practice the goal is to help every client define what thriving means to them, not based on the needs and restrictions of others but for you & by you. I am here to affirm who you are and who you strive to be. Therapy when done right can be invigorating, affirming, challenging and not forever. I look forward to being a tool to help you define your thrive.

Why Black Social Workers Matter
Like in all areas of life representation matters when it comes to mental health. While no one has lived your life and shared all of your experiences, it can often matter to be able to relate to someone who shares a visible identity similar to your own. As a Black social worker I work hard to hold space for those impacted by systemic racism and provide an affirming place to figure out how to thrive in a world that does not always want to see you doing your best. Diverse representation in therapy has been linked to improved therapy outcomes and a reduction in misdiagnoses for BIPOC folx. I take pride and responsibility in my Blackness and use it as tool to assist others wherever I can.
